Description
The Heavy Flow Kit includes:
- 3 Day Pads (or 3 Large Day Pads, if you choose to substitute!)
- 3 Night Pads
- 1 Classic Carry Bag for on the go
- 1 Small Wet Bag for storing your pads at home or in your bag
Think cloth pads can't handle heavy flow? Think again! This kit includes a selection of our favorite pads for those of us with a heavier cycle. If you typically need more coverage, consider substituting our Large Day Pads -- two inches longer and one inch wider than our standard-size Day Pads. The Heavy Flow Kit is also a great choice for postpartum or for plus-size women.
How to Use
To Use GladRags Washable Menstrual Pads:
1. Place 1 or 2 of the inserts inside the holder.
2. Turn your GladRag over. Snap it around your underwear. The tag side goes next to your underwear and the smooth side goes next to your body.
3. Change your GladRag (holder and inserts) about as often as you would change a disposable pad.
4. Follow care instructions for washing.
Cleaning & Care
After use, separate the inserts from the holder. Soak in cold water to help prevent staining. Adding an enzyme cleaner to the soaking water may help protext against staining. Machine wash and dry using natural soap or detergent; please do not use chlorine bleach. You may hand wash pads if desired. Remove pads from dryer promptly and store flat to eliminate wrinkling; use cool iron if desired. Store your pads in a clean, dry area.
When away from home, place your used pads in a GladRags Carry Bag or Wet Bag until you return home, then wash per care instructions.
FAQs
Why do I change the whole GladRags pad, instead of just the inserts?
The versatile 3-part design of GladRags, serves multiple purposes: 1) the layers combine to make a thick, absorbent pad that then separates for thorough washing and faster drying; 2) the inserts allow you to customize the pad for your flow. Use one insert and it's a mini pad, use two and it's a maxi. If you have an especially heavy flow you can order an extra insert and use three inserts in the holder, so it's a super maxi.
Some cloth pad companies suggest only changing the inserts and not the holder. We find that cloth pads where you reuse the same holder throughout the day feel too moist after a few insert changes. We think cloth pads are most comfortable if you change the whole pad each time, rather than just part of it.
How many GladRags cloth pads do I need?
Menstrual cycles vary greatly from woman to woman. Most women use 6 to 12 day pads and 1 to 3 night pads and maybe supplement light days with pantyliners. It all depends on your flow and how often you do laundry. Change your GladRags as often as you would change a disposable, and remember: a pad consists of the holder and two inserts, and so you must change the whole thing, not just the inserts.
How should I clean my GladRags?
It's simple: just pre-soak in cold water, then machine wash and dry.
Here are the specifics: remove the inserts from the holder; soak or pre-rinse in cold water (change the water daily). Then machine wash with your dark clothes in cold or warm water. Avoid using hot water to wash your GladRags. Machine dry completely. GladRags can also be safely hand-washed and dried, but it's not necessary to do so.
Wash your GladRags before your initial use. The pads may shrink a bit in the first washing. If you want to use additional laundry boosters, we recommend Rockin' Green's Femme Rock detergent. Natural enzyme stain removers, like Bi-O-Kleen's Bac-Out and Ruby's Red Wash are also effective.
Please note: Chlorine bleach is NOT recommended or needed. The bleach will not only shorten the life of your pads but will put toxins both into our environment and close to a very sensitive part of your body!

Heavy Flow Kit
By: Erin from Halifax, NS CA on September 27, 2012
"These pads are really comfortable and are quickly becoming my go-to for warm weather. The smaller pads are great as a pantyliner for everyday use and the heavy ones protect me overnight when I have a heavy flow.
I would highly recommend this kit as it gives you a great idea of what you would need to build your stash. I never thought I'd be using reusables, but now I only regret that I hadn't tried them out before now!"

Great pads
By: Erin from Dartmouth, NS CA on September 10, 2012
"I just purchased a heavy flow kit, and it worked really well for me. The longer pads worked perfectly for overnights and heavy days. The material is soft and breathable, and I can tell that it will be comfortable in the warm months of the year. I felt secure using my Gladrags knowing that there was no way that I was going to have leaks. It was a great introduction to cloth pads! I also liked that I could customize the pads with the inserts;
I was able to use the smaller pads for my light and medium days. Highly recommend these pads! :) I only wish I had known about cloth pads about 15 years ago! Thanks Gladrags, keep up the great work."

Seriously changed my period!
By: Loving my GladRags! from Chicago, IL US on April 11, 2013
"First the downside: It is an adjustment (or it was for me) wearing cloth pads. It was hard to figure out how much absorbancy I needed & it feels a bit different. The bulk takes some getting used to as well.
Now the awesomeness: All cotton, soft, no sticky nastiness. These stayed in place for me, even biking. The fit is awesome & even though it took a bit to figure out the absorbancy I needed I never once leaked! Super easy to take care of. These have made me love my period.
I am petite & these fit me better than Luna Pads, though I think both are quality pads -- Much better than most of the stuff you can find on Etsy, which typically are NOT all cotton -- If breathability is important, than all cotton is a MUST!
