An important notice from Jade & Pearl:
Due to FDA regulations we are no longer able to market our Sea Pearls specifically for menstruation or as a prolapse support. We also no longer wish to associate our sea sponges with the word “tampon”. By definition, our Sea Pearls are not tampons, they are just sponges.
Due to these restrictions, we can no longer advise customers on the use of their sponges. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Rest assured, we are still selling the same high quality sea sponges that we have offered to the women of the world for the past 40 years.
I purchased these sponges so that I would have an alternative to cloth pads when I go out and I am so happy I did. The sponges are easy to use and if I'm going to be away from home for a long period of time they're less challenging to use than the cloth pads because you can simply rinse the sponge in the sink and reinsert rather than needing to have a wet bag and clean pads. I've had extremely minimal leakage with the sponges, likely just the water I've dampened them with which is taken care of by a GladRags panty liner. These are far more comfortable to insert than a dry tampon and when I'm using one I can't feel it.
OK these are way more comfortable than disposables, and easier to deal with than cloth pads. Best part? You can totally have sex while using it, and it's clean and tidy.
I bought these sponges in regular size and teen size. My periods are on the light side and I wasn't sure which one would be best. My mouth almost dropped when I saw the size of the "regulars". OMGoodness they're like cupcakes!! Be aware, people, that even when soft and wet these things are MASSIVE! If you don't get the sponge ALL THE WAY UP to your cervix you will feel uncomfortable so I'm not sure what they were thinking or I guess people just come in all sizes. I have gone through normal childbirth so its not like I'm miniature but I had to use the teen size TRIMMED DOWN. They work like a charm when you get them right. My "regulars" I plan on cutting in half and reshaping . Everything being said its a great invention!
I am in love with these sponge tampons. Super easy to use, comfortable and absorbent. Pop one in with a glad rag panty liner. Several hours later I take it out, rinse and put it back in! All day just one item to use. No waste, nothing extra to carry around with me. Then, when I get home, I wash well with the Bac-out and let air dry. FAB!
Wow! I love the sea sponge and have found it works great for me with, even during heavy flow and with no accidents! I even was camping and swimming and was so pleased with the performance of the sea sponge! Surprise, surprise! My new favorite.
The last time I tried to (unsuccessfully ) insert a conventional tampon was probably in early high school, so I can't really compare the two, other than I remember the cotton tampon being really dry (and I tried to insert it with lubricant . . .). I really like the sea sponge tampons, they're easy to use and clean! I love that it comes with thorough instructions, too. I don't know if this is a problem that anyone else has, but when I sit down to pee, I can feel the sea sponge pushing out; it feels extremely uncomfortable and I'm freaked out that urine is going to be absorbed into the sea sponge and give me a yeast infection or an UTI. I'd still use it for the most part, though.*** ***GladRags Note: If a Sea Sponge tampon ever seems uncomfortable, you can trim around the perimeter to make it smaller. In addition, if you experience discomfort while using the restroom, just remove the Sea Sponge first and reinsert it after!
These are really nice - much better than various cups, etc, that can leak or are a bit painful to put in and out all day. No more of that horrible mostly dry-tampon-pulling-out feeling, no dangling string to pee on. I usually wear a liner/glad rag just in case on heavy days, but I rarely have problems. I've bought them before and just got my second set -- first lasted me easily a couple of years before they got too worn out. Highly recommended for an eco-friendly, body-friendly option!
I appreciate the natural option of sea sponges but they are not for everyone. I found them very uncomfortable and by the time I trimmed them down to a comfortable size, there was hardly any sponge left to absorb anything. I won't be using them any more. Might not be a quality issue, just an individual preference. Definitely not a universal solution.
Sea sponges have been a part of my cycle for almost ten years, at the middle end when my flow is lighter than the need for the diva cup. For my personal lifestyle, they serve now as birth control as well.
One day I was thinking about my condition, double reproductive system, double the period, double the everything. I thought about how many pads and tampons and panty liners I go through, and how much waste I have created in the last 8 years. I went onto a private FB group I'm in for women that have uterus didelphys and inquired about the Diva Cup. A lovely lady recommended this site specifically and this product. IT'S NATURAL? YOU GET MULTIPLE USES OUT OF IT? Yes. That was it, I bought this along with an overnight pad. These are so awesome, and this works best for me because at my work we have a private bathroom so I can wash it out right away. I can see how this would not be effective for those that work at a place with a multi-stall bathroom. Insertion is easy, removal takes some getting used to. If you're having second thoughts or looking for that review to really sell you the product, this is it. From a lady with two vaginas and double the period, this works.
