So you've found out that GladRags cloth pads are sustainable, chemical-free, made from 100% cotton, body-safe, soft & comfy, economical...and you've decided to try them. Nice work!
Now you're just wondering: what should I expect? We're here to break it down for you so you feel confident right from the start.
How cloth pads work
- Instead of sticking to your underwear like disposable pads, cloth pads have wings that snap around your underwear.
- You wear a cloth pad for as long as your flow will allow, and then switch it out for a fresh one. If you're using them for light leaks, you just swap them out when they're damp and need to be changed.
- 100% cotton pads don't have a plastic liner in them, so it can take a little while to get the hang of how often to change them. We've had lots of customers tell us that they prefer to start using them on weekends or at home, and also to change them more often than they need to in the beginning to avoid leaks. In general, our Pantyliners have the same absorbency as a standard disposable pantyliner, Day Pads last as long as a disposable maxi pad, etc. For light leaks, our pads may need to be changed more often than disposables, but every person is unique!
Before using your pads
- Like all new apparel (ESPECIALLY anything that's going to touch your most sensitive areas), your pads should be washed and dried before use.
- You don't need special soap - whatever you use for your normal laundry is fine. Machine wash cold and either hang to dry or tumble dry low. For less wrinkling, take them out of the dryer right away and smooth them out while they're still warm.
- Pro Tip: only unused/unwashed pads can be returned. So if you're not sure they'll work for you, just wash one and test it out so you can still return the others!
