Our Night Pad Plus gives you reliable, no-nonsense protection—and worry-free sleep—that lasts till morning - and the extra long inserts make this our most absorbent (and most popular!) night pad.

Each Night Pad Plus is customizable with one holder and two long, flared inserts, with full absorbency equivalent to a standard overnight maxi pad. At 14" long with a unique flared design, the tapered ends help prevent leaks whether you’re a front, back or side sleeper, making them perfect for heavy overnight periods or postpartum recovery.

Try the Night Pad if you’d like the same pad length, but with shorter inserts.

  • GladRags Reusable Pads

    • Made of natural, breathable cotton fabrics

    • Gentle on the skin
    • Dramatically less waste, and compostable at home at the end of their journey
    • Trusted for over 30 years

How GladRags Work

  1. Put 1-2 inserts into Night Holder depending on the absorbency you want.
  2. Snap Night Pad around underwear.
  3. Change as often as you would an overnight maxi pad.
  4. Wash and reuse!

Hot tip: Both styles of Night Pads are as absorbent as an overnight maxi pad. The main difference between the Night Pad and the Night Pad Plus is the extra coverage and protection that the longer Plus Inserts provide.

Don't Just Take Our Word For It:

Customers praise these reusable overnight pads for exceptional absorbency, comfort, and leak protection during sleep. Many report "no leaks" and appreciate the soft organic cotton versus disposables. Some note the pads are very large and thick, with concerns about side leakage, shrinkage after washing, and price. One customer found them insufficient for postpartum use.

Glad Rags have never disappointed since the day I had to buy one in an emergency at a hippy natural food store in 1998. After one day of using cloth, the traditional plastic pads just felt uncomfortable. I still have that one an more of them now. That one has washed clean and soft every time and is still comfortable. The overnight is soft, comfortable and doesn't shift or leak. Really happy with organic cotton pads.

3.5 stars. I have been using reusable pads for years now. Honestly, this product is a little pricy, but does seem justified given it's a small brand who offers unique patterns. When it comes to organic cotton, cotton in general is very resource intensive (primary its water usage), and the term "organic" has become somewhat greenwashed in the sustainability space. So if you're purchasing based on either of those factors, do consider those points and further research. As for actual product experience, I air dry these, so I find they don't end up feeling as soft as when put in the dryer. I have a medium-light flow and can usually get through my period with just pads and period underwear. For me, one of these works well overnight (7-8 hours) with period underwear. I would consider buying again, but will probably look at alternative options as well.

Great! Can use extra inserts for heavy flow

I have very heavy periods and these are the best option I’ve found. On my heaviest nights, I can use extra inserts (I can even fit 5 or 6) and pull some inserts a few inches to the front and some a few inches to the back to provide even more coverage when lying on my stomach or back. No more leaks.
I’ve had mine a few years and they’ve held up great through many trips through the washer and dryer (not sure if you’re supposed to dry them but I don’t have time to separate and air dry this many pads - it has not affected the absorbency).

Not suitable for postpartum

I bought five of these for postpartum lochia. Not at all absorbant enough! I ended up having to use disposables for a week, very disappointed. The design is horrible compared to the pocket pad design I've ordered from glad rags before. If these were the original design I'm thinking they would have worked better. Sometimes the inserts fall out because there only held in by the middle strip of fabric.

We're sorry you had this experience with our Night Pads Plus! We'll be contacting you shortly to try and help.

My Daily Pad

I have a very heavy flow and love the extra long protection this set offers! I feel nice and secure overnight, too. And of course my skin feels great without having adhesive and plastic rubbing me wrong all day. Bonus--you can snap the insert underneath any other pad style in a pinch and bam, extra protection when your flow runs longer than expected.

So amazing

No leaks in any sleep position

Night pads are the first time I have been able to sleep through the night with no leaks. I used to have to use 2 disposables at night, sleep in only certain positions, and I still leaked all the time. My sleeping position only influenced how much I leaked.
It is much more comfortable to wear a night pad with inserts than it is to try to wear two disposables. I was able to sleep comfortably on my period for the first time ever. It didn't matter what position I was in, the night pad caught it all. Looks like I will not be getting period blood on my underwear, sleep wear, or sheets anymore. I'm not complaining. Thank you for a good night's rest!

Comfortable but wish there was a waterproof layer

After a couple children and several years of nursing, my period went from being not a big deal at all to extremely heavy. (I also am over 40 and have a non-cancerous uterine fibroid that I am trying to manage without surgery under my doctor's supervision.) I am now in need of large maxi pads to back up my my menstrual cup and organic tampons. I've tried using my kids' leftover cloth diapers (prefolds and flats) and they work, but I wanted something that secures to my underwear. I gave the Night Pad Plus a try. Comfort is vastly superior to any disposable pad, but I've realized I need a cloth pad with a waterproof layer. On my heavy days, I soak right through this pad and the booster within a half-hour. I do like the comfort and quality, so for now, I'll save it for moderate to light days.

Hi EMPK!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with our pads. I'm glad to hear you are working with your doctor, as going through the pad within half an hour is heavy. I hope you find something that works for those heavy days, and I'm so glad to hear that this pad works for your lighter days and is comfortable! If you ever need to extend the absorbency a bit with our Night Pad Plus, you may be able to fit three or four inserts in the pads! I hope you find a solution that works for you and your body!

Large and Effective

I started using GladRags about 15 years ago. Once my first batch wore out, I just slipped back into using disposables again. But with the advent of perimenopause, I found myself using more and more and was less and less comfortable with the amount of plastic and waste I was generating. So I ordered a batch of new glad rags.
These are HUGE, just what I want for nighttime use. They are soft and don't make the crinkly sound of disposables. Easy to clean. Glad I started using them again.

Amazing!

I don’t know why I haven’t bought these before! They are incredibly comfortable, plus you save the environment AND money! If you’ve been thinking about making the switch, go for it! You will not be disappointed!

My favorite size!

I love the Night Pad Plus! The longer inserts give me the security of knowing that I'll be covered even if I wiggle around, and they're so soft and comfortable! I originally got the Deluxe Kit Plus, and I gave some of my day pads and liners to my sister, but I couldn't give up the awesome night pads. I ended up getting her the 2 pack of night pads later because I felt guilty about keeping something so useful from her!

Cozy!

In addition to them being very effective and what they are meant to do (highly absorbent, no leakage), there is something very comfy and cozy about wearing these to bed. They are SO soft and fit so well. Plus they are so cute, its nice to know I will use them month after month. I have also used these pads postpartum when my son was born- and I will again in a few months! And I cannot say enough wonderful things about the comfort that these provided after birth- they were wonderful!

I don’t know how I’ve gone so long without it!

I suffer from a lot of nighttime leaking from my cup during my heavier days. During my period, I often find myself up in the middle of the night, changing underwear and cleaning sheets. I decided to give the night pad plus a try.
Once it arrived, I was a little put off by the size. This thing is HUGE. It’s definitely not something I would want to wear all day. However, I must now say that my nights of cleaning up after leaks are over.
The night pad plus provides very thorough coverage and comes with two very absorbant inserts. The inserts are actually so thick that I only wear one and switch to the other insert to use for the next night.
Since getting the night pad plus, I’ve been able to enjoy more restful nights on my period!

Best decision of my menstrual life!

Traditional pads left me itchy, irritated, and hatingthat time of the month. I almost never slept because I was so uncomfortable. Switching to GladRags has been great! The night plus are all I use since I need big pads (in fact, I wish a slightly longer size was available - us big bottom girls still get leaks). But despite still leaking a bit in the back, these are SO comfy, easy to care for, and they really do last. Thanks so much!

I needed to get used to it, but I like it!

This was part of my sampler kit. I had the hardest time with this one. I did leak..but with heavy/very heavy flow and a history of epic leaks overnight ( really, up to my waistband!) I expected the possibility. Because this is so much longer than the liners and day pads, it extends front and back quite a bit. As such, your legs aren't preventing it from moving a little bit the way they would with the others. So if your panties are even a bit loose in the back leakage is likely because it can shift a bit at the end. This was part of my issue. The plus has more insert coverage than the other ( a good thing), and seems enormous just laying flat but if you need this, you get over that! I would order this again.

Awesome!!!!!

These overnights are seriously awesome. They do take sometime getting used to them but I'm happy I bought them. I'm planning on purchasing more. I love that they're environmentally friendly and save me money on pads and tampons. It's a win-win.

Great design, but it shrunk!

I love the design of these pads and that they are quick drying, with extra layers of more protection is needed. Despite following the washing instructions (and only line drying) the pad shrunk in length by over an inch after only a couple of washings. Not as much, but also a significant amount of shrinking in the wings. So I guess order larger than you think you will need to allow for shrinking.

My favorite pad from the Gladrags site!

This is my favorite pad from the Gladrags website! I love the fact that it is super long and I don't have to worry about leaks and I can still feel comfortable at the same time. It's good on light days and heavy days and the inserts allow you to change the absorbency of the pad. I wear these on my heaviest days to bed, during the day when my period is heaviest, or when I just want the added security on a lazy day at home. You can wear the pad on your light days without the inserts or you can use more inserts on your heaviest days. This pad is the most convenient and versatile in my opinion and I will definitely buy more! If you want more security and to keep the pads in place you can cut off the legs of stockings to keep the pad in place and keep the bulkiness down. I'm glad I don't have to worry about chaffing and irritation from plastic pads. Love these!

Prone to Leakage

These overnight pads serve their purpose well for overnight use... but they do have a few issues.
(1) They leak on the sides. For some reason, the wings on these overnight pads are different than the wings on the day pads, and that means that, as I toss and turn in my sleep, I don't have as much side coverage protection. Without fail, every single time I've used these pads, I end up with a small amount of side leakage.
(2) They're really, REALLY thick. While that's not terrible for night wear, I certainly wouldn't want to wear them in the daytime. Trying to walk around with this pad on feels like I'm wearing a diaper.
(3) The insert coverage is smaller than the pad base coverage. To get proper coverage, I need to stagger the inserts, with one further forward on the pad, and one further back -- and that stresses me out that someday I'll forget and end up with length leakage too.
Good news is that these pads are super absorbent and they don't cause ANY chafing or itching. Hooray!

Works great

As someone who is approaching menopause, my cycle has definitely changed the last couple of years. I have a heavier flow, and due to the type of work I do, I can't always get to the bathroom as frequently as would be ideal. The night pad works great for those couple of really heavy days.

Severe Irritation Problem Solved

I had a horrible, itchy, scaly red rash all over my nether regions that every time I got under control, I would catch my period & it would blow up again. So I looked on my bag of pads for the ingredients to see what was doing this & was horrified to find NOTHING on the package. For all I know, there could be wood pulp, arsenic, & ground fire ants in there. That's when I started looking online for an alternative & I found out about Glad Rags. I was skeptical - I have a flow that just goes everywhere. I was worried that I would bleed through so I got the overnight plus which I use as my daily pad (I have a couple of normal size ones that I use as my liners for "light" flow) & it's been a few months now & I'm pretty happy. It takes a little bit of planning to make sure your pads are ready when you are but well worth not having an embarrassing & uncomfortable "problem" down there anymore.

Top 5 Questions From People Thinking About Switching:

Do they REALLY save money?

There's a lot of talk out there about saving money over time, but the math doesn't always add up. Ours does.

Exact amounts vary based on what type of disposable pads you use, and how many you use per period, but a low average assumes 25 pads per cycle (5 pads/day for 5 days) or 300 pads per year, totaling approximately $450 over 5 years. If you buy 'natural' or organic pads, the 5 year cost is more like $1,070–$1,430. And disposable pad costs have risen 41%+ since 2020, so who knows what they'll be in 5 years!

Our Conventional Deluxe Kit costs $288 and the Organic version is $345, and they're guaranteed to last 5 years. So over 5 years, you're going to save $100-162. At the bare minimum.

And if you currently buy Organic pads, and your new GladRags last longer than 5 years (many customers use them for 10!), You could be saving $2500+ over the next 10 years!

Are they hard to wash?

You can machine wash and dry with your normal laundry.

There's more extensive laundering information below and you can make it as much of a process as you want, but it can really be as simple as that.

Will they leak?

They do not have a plastic liner in them, they will eventually leak through (like a tampon!). How fast you bleed through them depends on how heavy your flow is, and also how thin your menstrual blood is.

Use one insert for light flow and two for more protection, and you'll be worry free! Since we developed the Night Pad Plus with longer inserts and more absorbency up the back and front, this has become our most popular night pad. We recommend that anyone worried about night leaks start with the Night Pad Plus.

Are cloth pads bulkier than disposables?

Most customers say that they feel softer and more comfortable than disposables.

Can we talk about ... odor?

The elephant in the room: Are they going to smell?

Cotton breathes better than plastic pads and does not contain any chemical gels. So our pads do not have that strong 'disposable pad' smell that everyone hates. Most people worry that reusable pads will be like that x10, but they're not.

If you don't keep your used pads in an airtight container or bag for days on end, smells are generally a non issue. You can also rinse your GladRags out with cool water before putting them in the laundry if you do notice anything.

Not Sure About Using Reusable Pads for Heavy Flows?

Check out our Heavy Flow Sampler. Many customers appreciate:

  • You don't need plastic liners to manage heavy bleeding
  • It's nice to test the heavy flow options and find what works best so you know what to invest in.
  • Easiest to transition to cloth pads when you have a few different styles to choose from.

FAQ

HOW MANY PADS DO I NEED?

Most people start with 8-12 pads and have to wash 1-2 times during their cycle. If you're new to cloth pads, we recommend a Cloth Pad Starter Kit (or Starter Kit Plus), using that for a few cycles and figuring out what else you need to complete your collection.

HOW LONG DO THEY LAST?

We guarantee our pads to last at least 5 years with proper care. Hundreds of customers have told us that their pads lasted at least 10 years before they replaced them (or menopause started)! Personally, I've been using the same pads for over 12.

Our cost savings estimates are all based on 5 years of use, but if you actually use them for 10 years, imagine how much more you'll save!

CAN THEY BE USED FOR LIGHT INCONTINENCE?

They sure can. While GladRags were originally designed for menstruation, it didn't take long to start hearing from customers that they were being used for light leaks. That's not something we talk about enough as a culture, but light incontinence impacts 1/3 of women! They're a wonderful alternative to disposables.

Most people find that the pantyliner plus is the perfect light incontinence solution. For a little more peace of mind (or the ability to swap out the insert for a new one), the Day Pad is the other go-to option.

CLEANING & CARE

Caring for your cloth pads is simple. Follow our easy step-by-step instructions to ensure your GladRags will stay in great condition for years to come.

Easy care: Machine washable with standard detergent. Designed to retain absorbency and shape wash after wash.

Detailed Cloth Pad Cleaning & Care:

After use, separate the inserts from the holder. Pantyliners do not have inserts.
Soak in cold water, if desired, to help prevent staining. Use the presoak function on your washing machine, or soak in a covered rust-proof container. Change soaking water daily.
Machine wash cold using a natural detergent and tumble dry low or line dry. Do not use bleach or fabric softener. You may hand wash pads if desired.
Remove pads from dryer promptly and store flat to eliminate wrinkling; use cool iron if desired. Store your pads in a clean, dry place until next use.

Avoid using detergents with fabric softeners or whiteners/brighteners as these can inhibit the absorbency of your cloth pads. Try these plastic-free, non-toxic laundry detergent sheets from our friends at Zero Waste Cartel! Be aware that soaking your cloth pads in water with additives such as hydrogen peroxide can degrade the fabric and lead to holes. For this reason, we recommend utilizing stain removers as spot treatments and do not advise soaking cloth pads in water treated with peroxide-based stain removers.

We do not recommend the use of castile soap, facial soap, or other soaps not intended for textile laundering. Excess detergent may lead to build up, which can limit the absorbency of your cloth pads. While we have many customers that use homemade detergents with great success, cloth pads laundered with homemade detergent are not covered under our warranty. Full warranty information is available here.

A note about staining: Soaking your GladRags in cold water or pre-treating with an enzymatic cleanser immediately after using are two simple ways to prevent staining. However, light staining does not indicate that your laundered cloth pads are not clean or sanitary!

To clean your GladRags Carry Bag, simply wipe the bag with a damp cloth or machine wash cold, then air dry or tumble dry low.
