Our Night Pad gives you reliable, no-nonsense protection—and worry-free sleep—that lasts till morning.

Each Night Pad is customizable with one holder and two inserts, with full absorbency equivalent to a standard overnight maxi pad. At 14" long with a unique flared design, the tapered ends help prevent leaks whether you’re a front, back or side sleeper, making them perfect for heavy overnight periods or postpartum recovery.

Try the Night Pad Plus if you’d like extra-long inserts that extend the length and width of the holder.

    How GladRags Work

    1. Put 1-2 inserts into Night Holder depending on the absorbency you want.
    2. Snap Night Pad around underwear.
    3. Change as often as you would an overnight maxi pad.
    4. Wash and reuse!

Hot tip: Both styles of Night Pads are as absorbent as an overnight maxi pad. The main difference between the Night Pad and the Night Pad Plus is the extra coverage and protection that the longer Plus Inserts provide.

Reusable overnight pads praised for exceptional absorbency, comfort, and eco-friendliness. Customers said they're "life changing" with superior coverage compared to disposables. Many noted reduced cramping and no rashes. Some concerns about absorbency for very heavy flows and bunching while standing. Easy to clean and durable, with some lasting 20+ years.

These pads have changed my life. The first couple days of my moon cycle are pretty heavy. Using store bought pads always left a mess as the absorbency is very poor. It made me feel like I couldn't take care of myself properly, that there was something wrong with my body, & that I had to keep using tampons. Switching to GladRags changed everything. I don't even cramp as much because I can allow my body to flow instead of stopping it up with a tampon. Plus it feels good to not be contributing to more plastic waste!!! I will sing the praises of these pads forever! Love you folks at GladRags, thank you so much for existing.

I love the concept of reusable pads. I've significantly reduced my menstrual product waste, which is a relief! The pads work great. I even hand wash them during my nightly shower, let it air dry and repeat.

    Not Bad

I am in the process of transitioning to zero waste periods, so this review is coming from someone who is still looking for the best, most comfortable solution.

Some info: my preference is period undies, as they are most comfortable, but I need extra coverage for 1-2 days in addition to even the most absorbent undies, especially overnight. This is where the gladrags come in. Also, I am small both in clothing size and height :)

I bought a night pad after trying a regular day pad and being dissatisfied with the small area of coverage even for daytime. The night pad definitely has enough coverage for laying down and tossing and turning, and the long, base piece of the pad is actually thicker than the regular liners, so I was happy to see that. However, after using the night pad once and now looking at the night pad plus in comparison, I'm not sure why I bought the regular night pad instead. The insert pieces, which are the real absorbent pieces of any gladrag, are surprisingly small, only covering about the area of the built in liner of your panties. I suppose if you have a light period (but somehow need a lot of absorbency overnight?), this is not much of a concern, as the long piece of the pad does have some thickness to it, but for someone like me whose body thinks it is a competition to see how much blood I can lose without passing out, I should have bought the nightpad plus that has inserts in a similar size to the rest of the pad. For that reason, I would not purchase again, although I will probably buy a night pad plus.

Also, I found the night pad to be quite uncomfortable to wear (I paired with a thin* pair of period undies, FYI). It bunched up a bit when standing, as it is so much bigger than my undies, and took a bit of adjusting if I went the bathroom. Since my primary use is to wear while sleeping though, it is not the end of the world. I did not notice the pad at all once I was cozy in bed :)

misleading, poor design, not suitable for night

I've been using cloth pads for almost 20 years now. The overnight pad was a gift from my midwife. I was excited to see a long supposedly overnight shape with flared ends and wings, for I have always had a heavy flow, and additionally like this shape for postpartum as well. HOWEVER- the material is only 2 layers of cloth plus the 2 tiny inserts which are the same exact sized insert as Glad Rags standard day pad inserts! there is no way to add absorbency beyond that small area of insert, thus the the blood just wicks up and seeps through the long flared ends. You can feel how thin the bulk of the pad is. The shape and length of it is great it's just not thick or absorbent enough to handle a heavy flow much less overnight use. I read all these other reviews and am shocked that others think this pad is sooo great, unless I'm really the only one who's tried this with a heavy flow. I am super disappointed and will be looking elsewhere for a thick overnight long pad w/wings that is not disposable.

    Hi Eleanor,
I'm sorry to hear that the Night Pad didn't work out for you :(
It sounds like you might prefer our Night Pad Plus (https://gladrags.com/collections/night-pads/products/color-night-pads-plus), which has inserts that span the full length of the holder!

why would you use a single use pad ever again

I've been using GladRags pads for a few years now and I keep adding to my collection. As someone who wants to create as less waste as possible and can't always wear a menstrual cup, these reusable pads have been my life savers. I love the night pads because when I'm sleeping is when I have the least control and these things have great coverage. My favorite part is the wings because that's always what I preferred even before switching. The always changing fun designs and colors are just the best bonus and they're so soft to sleep in! I tell everyone I can about them!

    Perfect for the nights

I used to dread sleeping with a napkin during the night worried about staining my bedsheets. This night is amazing! It’s comfortable and secure and not once have I had an issue. It’s also easy to add more layers for that extra peace of mind

Still holding up after 20 years

As I was laundering my nighttime pads this weekend, I realized I’ve had them for at least 20 years! They are still comfortable, effective, and barely look worse for wear. The stitching has held up perfectly and I’ve never had to repair them. Feeling great about all the disposables I’ve kept out of the landfill all this time. Thank you GladRags!

    I’m such a fan

Upon first seeing the night pad I was shocked at the size, but once I had it on for a night and felt how protected I was from all angles, all hesitations we’re gone. I’m in an adjustment phase after switching birth control to the non-hormonal, copper IUD. I switched to gladrags from years using the mentrual cup to give my uterus and cervix time to adjust. My flow is much heavier now, but with GladRags, I’m at ease AND super comfortable!

    Great coverage

I Love using this on heavy days during the day and night! I just started using reusable pads after learning about it recently! It feels really comfortable and I feel safe wearing it around knowing it's doing what it's meant to do! Great quality cotton! Easy to clean, easy to use. I recommend this to anyone who is considering to switching to reusable pads, I love knowing that I'm doing something good for my body and for the environment!

Mix & match sizes for your own needs

I love the overnight length... but I prefer to use the 9" inserts from the Day Pad Plus with the overnight pad instead of either of the insert sizes that the overnight pad is sold with. The 9" inserts give me the right amount of width in the middle and a little more length for the coverage, which is something I'm looking for on the days I go for these. On lighter days, I use these 7.5" inserts with the Pantyliner Plus -- they stay put just fine without messing with the pocket on the Day Pad (and bonus: the Pantyliner Plus seems to have more absorbency than the Day Pad shells). I would love to see GladRags make this overnight size available for purchase with the 9" inserts!

    Omg thank you GladRags

Just. What can I say that isn't super tmi? I get really bad rashes from disposable pads because of adhesive and "swampyness" along with dreaded lady-part inflammation, but with these pads I have NONE of that. Do you hear angels singing? Cause I sure do. Another thing is the COVERAGE. I am a small small person. This pad covers me front to back with room to spare. I feel safe and secure with no need to break out the period pjs because I am solid for the night. I think my only sad thing is is that I'm bleeding on such cute designs and that makes me sad on the inside. Definitely need to make sure you get a mesh laundry bag so that you don't lose the inserts like I did. There's a Day Pad package that is awesome for an all in one purchase. So worth it.

    Amazing Solution to Period Pain

These reusable pads are amazing. I was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis last year and am in pain daily. When my period came every month, the pain tripled. The chemical laden pads I was using only worsened the problem and made me miserable throughout the four days. I experienced none of the rawness, irritation, or even odor while using these pads. I have a heavy first two days flow and the last two days are light flow. I ordered the night pads and found that they gave more coverage than the nonresuable pads I was using. No leaks! No pain! Comfortable! There were no regrets with buying these. I'm actually placing an order for more today to be able to make it through my whole cycle. I strongly recommend Gladrags. They turned my period issues around.

    Can't menstruate without them

Although I switch back and forth from cloth pads, menstruation underwear and organic tampons, I have been wearing GladRags night pads for over 10 years now. This is my third set. They are comfortable, absorbent and the bright colors and patterns are fun. Can't menstruate without them!

    Awesome night pad solution

I can't remember when I've been more excited about a purchase. I always hated using tampons or disposable night pads. Either I would be counting down the hours to when I had to change the tampon or the disposable pad would feel like a diaper (not to mention getting rashes from using pads all night.). This pad is amazing! No leaks, easy to use and wash, and it doesn't feel like a diaper. I hope more people make the switch to cloth pads.

    Do Not Hesitate

I love the night pad, I look forward to going to bed now (no joke). The most dreaded time of the month have been transformed. The cotton is so soft, and the product delivers. I used to wear a tampon and a pad to bed and would still wake up from bleeding through all of it.
When I switched to menstrual cups a few years ago, I did better but as soon as I got into a vertical position, the blood would burst out of the cup because it was filled to the brim. Using gladrags for heavy nights has changed my life, I can wake up and chill like I would if I wasn't on my period, until I feel like getting up. Caring for them is easy to, I rinse them immediately and then soak them in an enzyme based stain remover or laundry detergent until I'm ready to do a load in the washer. They wash beautifully, and get softer over time. Love these!

    My favorite!

Oh my goodness these are wonderful! The size is perfect and the fabric is comfy and cozy against my sensitive skin. I've seen other reviewers say that the absorbency is awesome and that your period may not be as heavy with reusable pads as it normally is and that is the case for me as well! I highly suggest the switch if you haven't already :D

    So nice!

I made a reluctant switch to cotton pads about 6 months ago and I'm so glad I did! I always used tampons during the day and disposable pads at night. About a year ago I switched to using a cup instead of tampons (which was fantastic). Eventually the disposable pads started irritating my skin, and I don't like wearing the cup at night. These pads are so comfy and easy to clean, and so much more Eco-friendly! My starter pack has paid itself off many times over! Plus the designs are so cute, I love wearing them!

    So glad!

These are just wonderful, and well worth the work of soaking and washing. I was doubtful at first about the inserts but they stay in place perfectly. In fact the whole pad stays in place way better than any adhesive pad. And it feels great to re-use instead of adding to the world's garbage! I only wish I'd started using these years ago. Thanks!

Top 5 Questions From People Thinking About Switching:

    Do they REALLY save money?

There's a lot of talk out there about saving money over time, but the math doesn't always add up. Ours does.

Exact amounts vary based on what type of disposable pads you use, and how many you use per period, but a low average assumes 25 pads per cycle (5 pads/day for 5 days) or 300 pads per year, totaling approximately $450 over 5 years. If you buy 'natural' or organic pads, the 5 year cost is more like $1,070–$1,430. And disposable pad costs have risen 41%+ since 2020, so who knows what they'll be in 5 years!

Our Conventional Deluxe Kit costs $288 and the Organic version is $345, and they're guaranteed to last 5 years. So over 5 years, you're going to save $100-162. At the bare minimum.

And if you currently buy Organic pads, and your new GladRags last longer than 5 years (many customers use them for 10!), You could be saving $2500+ over the next 10 years!

    Are they hard to wash?

You can machine wash and dry with your normal laundry.

There's more extensive laundering information below and you can make it as much of a process as you want, but it can really be as simple as that.

    Will they leak?

They do not have a plastic liner in them, they will eventually leak through (like a tampon!). How fast you bleed through them depends on how heavy your flow is, and also how thin your menstrual blood is.

Use one insert for light flow and two for more protection, and you'll be worry free! Since we developed the Night Pad Plus with longer inserts and more absorbency up the back and front, this has become our most popular night pad. We recommend that anyone worried about night leaks start with the Night Pad Plus.

Are cloth pads bulkier than disposables?

Most customers say that they feel softer and more comfortable than disposables.

Can we talk about ... odor?

The elephant in the room: Are they going to smell?

Cotton breathes better than plastic pads and does not contain any chemical gels. So our pads do not have that strong 'disposable pad' smell that everyone hates. Most people worry that reusable pads will be like that x10, but they're not.

If you don't keep your used pads in an airtight container or bag for days on end, smells are generally a non issue. You can also rinse your GladRags out with cool water before putting them in the laundry if you do notice anything.

Not Sure About Using Reusable Pads for Heavy Flows?

Check out our Heavy Flow Sampler. Many customers appreciate:

    • You don't need plastic liners to manage heavy bleeding
    • It's nice to test the heavy flow options and find what works best so you know what to invest in.
    • Easiest to transition to cloth pads when you have a few different styles to choose from.

    FAQ

HOW MANY PADS DO I NEED?

Most people start with 8-12 pads and have to wash 1-2 times during their cycle. If you're new to cloth pads, we recommend a Cloth Pad Starter Kit (or Starter Kit Plus), using that for a few cycles and figuring out what else you need to complete your collection.

    HOW LONG DO THEY LAST?

We guarantee our pads to last at least 5 years with proper care. Hundreds of customers have told us that their pads lasted at least 10 years before they replaced them (or menopause started)! Personally, I've been using the same pads for over 12.

Our cost savings estimates are all based on 5 years of use, but if you actually use them for 10 years, imagine how much more you'll save!

CAN THEY BE USED FOR LIGHT INCONTINENCE?

They sure can. While GladRags were originally designed for menstruation, it didn't take long to start hearing from customers that they were being used for light leaks. That's not something we talk about enough as a culture, but light incontinence impacts 1/3 of women! They're a wonderful alternative to disposables.

Most people find that the pantyliner plus is the perfect light incontinence solution. For a little more peace of mind (or the ability to swap out the insert for a new one), the Day Pad is the other go-to option.

    CLEANING & CARE

Caring for your cloth pads is simple. Follow our easy step-by-step instructions to ensure your GladRags will stay in great condition for years to come.

Easy care: Machine washable with standard detergent. Designed to retain absorbency and shape wash after wash.

Detailed Cloth Pad Cleaning & Care:

After use, separate the inserts from the holder. Pantyliners do not have inserts.
Soak in cold water, if desired, to help prevent staining. Use the presoak function on your washing machine, or soak in a covered rust-proof container. Change soaking water daily.
Machine wash cold using a natural detergent and tumble dry low or line dry. Do not use bleach or fabric softener. You may hand wash pads if desired.
Remove pads from dryer promptly and store flat to eliminate wrinkling; use cool iron if desired. Store your pads in a clean, dry place until next use.

Avoid using detergents with fabric softeners or whiteners/brighteners as these can inhibit the absorbency of your cloth pads. Try these plastic-free, non-toxic laundry detergent sheets from our friends at Zero Waste Cartel! Be aware that soaking your cloth pads in water with additives such as hydrogen peroxide can degrade the fabric and lead to holes. For this reason, we recommend utilizing stain removers as spot treatments and do not advise soaking cloth pads in water treated with peroxide-based stain removers.

We do not recommend the use of castile soap, facial soap, or other soaps not intended for textile laundering. Excess detergent may lead to build up, which can limit the absorbency of your cloth pads. While we have many customers that use homemade detergents with great success, cloth pads laundered with homemade detergent are not covered under our warranty. Full warranty information is available here.

A note about staining: Soaking your GladRags in cold water or pre-treating with an enzymatic cleanser immediately after using are two simple ways to prevent staining. However, light staining does not indicate that your laundered cloth pads are not clean or sanitary!

To clean your GladRags Carry Bag, simply wipe the bag with a damp cloth or machine wash cold, then air dry or tumble dry low.
