This length of padis uncomfortable with where it ends in the back. The product is good quality but unless I ironed it to make it perfectly flat, the seam in the back rubs. I much prefer the day pad size but tried the day pad plus thinking that they’d be even better. For me, they are not and are abit uncomfortable.

    PROS:
    - Soft, comfortable, breathable
    - Breathability means no smell!

    CONS:
    - Bunches easily from being soft, so side leaks are more likely. (I went on a long walk with this pad on and I bled all along the side of the pad because of how it had bunched.)
    - If you get a little gush while lying down, the absorbency speed is not fast at all so it will drip down onto back of underwear.

As a note, I am not someone with a heavy period flow. I’m more of a light to medium flow person. I’ve used reusable period pads for years, but they’ve been made out of synthetic materials, so they’d smell after a while due to lack of breathable materials, but they had great absorbency speeds so I rarely ever experienced leaks.

    Awesome Heavy Flow Pads!!!

I've used two kinds of resuable pads as well as period underwear, and these pads are the BEST for my heavy flow days. I can wear them up to twelve hours without leaking through if I'm out and don't want to hassle with changing them. They're soft and durable--I used my old GladRags for ten years and they're still in surprisingly good condition! Just a bit threadbare and not as soft as new ones, so I decided I could restock. They do get a bit stained after that long, but that doesn't bother me because they're doing exactly what they're meant for. Only hitch I've had is that they do slide around a little when I'm walking/exercising, but I got the plus length pads specifically so that's not too much of an issue. I've also found the regular size inserts work great when added to my period underwear on lighter flow days. All in all LOVE these pads and SO SO glad to see GladRags still in business, despite the durability of their product. ;)

    They work

These are definitely better than disposable, and I would recommend them to anyone, but with caveats. Or one. I find they leak. Even using the heqvy flow pads. They work best with Thinxs undies, a period panty that I can't use solo as my flow is much too heavy, but work great together with these pads.

    Works great

Super absorbent, I’m very impressed and have been wearing this overnight with a pair of leggings to make sure the pad stays in place. So much more comfortable than a disposable pad! Stains come out easily after soaking in cold water. Took off one star because of how bulky these are- they’re visible even under jeans so I have only been wearing them around the house. If I ironed them between uses they might be a little flatter and more discreet. So glad I have these for the days I’m home though!

    Very Impressed

An absolutely wonderful product. They provide great coverage and are comfortable to wear all day; I don't get the diaper rash feeling I used to get with disposable pads. I'm very impressed that the stains come out completely too!
I purchased both the organic, undyed cotton ones, and the regular colorful ones, and the undyed ones are AMAZING. I wore those on my heaviest day and, after washing according to the instructions, there isn't a single stain left! The colorful ones have a tiny bit of stains left.
Immediately after wearing, I rinse/squeeze them in cold water until the runoff water is clear, then soak in cold water, then wash in the machine with cold water and dry on low.
I'll definitely be using gladrags for all my period product needs from now on!

    Easier switch than I expected

Finally made the switch to re-usable pads and I love it. I was worried about stains but the soaking helps and when I haven't had time to soak I just rinse and then spray a natural enzyme stain remover on the pad, throw it in the wash and they are good as new. Very comfortable too.

It’s very thick but I use it at night which is just perfect! I love that they are completely plastic free. It’s a good product and makes me feel safe.

    LOVE GLADRAGS!

This was my first order from glad rags. I'm currently on my second round of using glad rags during my period, and I love the comfy, sustainable option! Being able to increase or decrease the absorbency by either using two inserts, one insert, or no inserts is a plus.

    Love it

I love that these are completely plastic free and organic. Even the snaps are metal which is surprisingly hard to find! They are pretty thick but I like feeling that I'm secure and not going to leak. I love that you can take out the liners to customize them a bit and even on a decently heavy day I only barely bled through to the second liner. Because they are thicker I would wear these only around the house or if you are wearing something that will cover your butt like a long shirt but super comfy and I feel better with them being breathable. Soon I will get the night 3 pack. Can't wait! Thank you!

    The best

I started using Glad Rags at the encouragement of my midwife after my son was born almost 17 years ago. I was cloth diapering-as I had done for my daughter previously-so it only made sense to take the next step to using non disposable menstrual products.
I’ve loved them ever since! And when I first started using them, there were no long day pads. I love my new rags with that extra length! And I can feel really good about not contributing to the landfill and plastics issues in this country.
I’ve tried others, but I keep coming back to the original! Highly recommend!

I am very pleased with the quality of fabrics used and the quality of the stitching, I believe these will last for quite some time.

    Old
    Absorbant, but bulky

I'm peri-menopausal, which means my flow can be very heavy at times. Because of this, the thing I like best about these pads is the ability to add or remove inserts as needed. The downside is that the pad plus two inserts (necessary for my worst days) is super bulky. Despite that, these are the only pads I've found that are absorbent enough for me on my worst days. Another positive: I also have very sensitive skin and the cover is soft enough to not be irritating. On the flip side: I have the Day Plus pads and they still aren't as long as I would prefer. I also have an overnight, and those are ridiculously long to wear during the day. I wish they had another size that was in between those two extremes. Despite their downsides, I am happy with these pads. Overall, they have been a good edition to my stash.

    Surprisingly Comfortable

These pads are soft, definitely a step-up from disposable products. My underwear and bedsheets are in much better shape with these guys helping me out, so now I can just sleep through the night with peace of mind.

    Bulky but very soft

I bought this at the same time as a color cotton one. The color one is very pretty and a little thinner, but also seems less absorbent. I’m not crazy about having to stuff it, so I think I’ll try the liners next, especially as I don’t have very heavy flow. Works well though, and cleaned up nicely, and I love that it’s organic.

    Efficient

The Organic Day Pads Plus work fine. Comfortable, have a good absorbency, even a better one than disposable products. The only thing that doesn't make sense to me is the ratio: one holder, two inserts. You're supposed to put the pad within the holder, and exchange both at the same time. With 2:1 you then have one insert left. I'd prefer to have pads to put on top of the holder. I asked support about this and they sent me a friendly reply explaining that yes, other producers follow that approach, but they chose to remain with the concept of replacing holder and insert at the same time. But otherwise, I am satisfied with the product and recommend it.

Less leaks and so much more comfortable than your conventional pad!

I wanted to get the most sustainable, comfortable, and absorbent pad that I could find and I definitely found it with this pad! When I was looking for the perfect pad, Gladrags helped me narrow down my choice to this and the night time plus pad. If you have a more heavy flow, are more active, and worried about leaking from the back/sides (night/day) then I recommend this pad. The organic pads are more absorbent than the regular day pads, so if leakage or running through pads too quickly is an issue for you, then the organic day plus pads are the best choice. They are longer as well so they cover more area. I personally prefer all the plus pads because the inserts are the same size of the pads so less chance for leaks! In addition you can adjust the absorbency with the convenient inserts. If you're worried about staining then you might want to try the colored pads, but if not, this is defi
    nitely a good choice.

My 87-yr-old mother lives in a long-term care facility but cares for herself independently (except for meds & meals). No More Chafing of Tender Parts!!

My 86-yr-old mother has had stress incontinence for many years but we could not find a paper product that did not injure her in some way. Until now!! Finally she can stay both dry AND comfortable. These products are not only excellent for menstruating women but also for the extremely thin and tender skin that comes with age. We are delighted with the products.

    Makes sense

It just makes sense to have reusable products. This was my first experience with reusable pads. I am happy with every aspect except that I prefer a 10 inch long pad. It did shrink slightly in the wash and there aren't any specifications of size in the description. I will continue to investigate the length of my next item to purchase but will be buy more reusables.

    happy customer

I am greatly satisfied with this product. I use the organic pads. One salesperson told me that the organic ones were more absorbent and she was absolutely correct. I only use the organic ones. The two pad inserts cover probably most levels of flow. I actually use these as my nighttime pads. They are too long for my daytime use but just right for overnight.

Top 5 Questions From People Thinking About Switching:

    Do they REALLY save money?

There's a lot of talk out there about saving money over time, but the math doesn't always add up. Ours does.

Exact amounts vary based on what type of disposable pads you use, and how many you use per period, but a low average assumes 25 pads per cycle (5 pads/day for 5 days) or 300 pads per year, totaling approximately $450 over 5 years. If you buy 'natural' or Organic pads, the 5 year cost is more like $1,070–$1,430. And disposable pad costs have risen 40%+ since 2020, so who knows what they'll be in 5 years!

Our Conventional Deluxe Kit costs $288 and the Organic version is $345, and they're guaranteed to last 5 years. So over 5 years, you're going to save $100-162. At the bare minimum.

And if you currently buy Organic pads, and your new GladRags last longer than 5 years (many customers use them for 10!), You could be saving $2500+ over the next 10 years!

    Will they leak?

They do not have a plastic liner in them, they will eventually leak through (like a tampon!). How fast you bleed through them depends on how heavy your flow is, and also how thin your menstrual blood is.

Use one insert for light flow and two for moderate flow, and change pads as you would a disposable, and you'll be worry free!

    How do I wash them?

Lots of people worry they'll be hard to wash. But it's easy! You can just machine wash and dry with your normal laundry.

There's more extensive laundering information below and you can make it as much of a process as you want, but it can really be as simple as that.

Are cloth pads bulkier than disposables?

Most customers say that they feel softer and more comfortable than disposables.

Can we talk about ... odor?

The elephant in the room: Are they going to smell?

Cotton breathes better than plastic pads and does not contain any chemical gels. So our pads do not have that gross 'disposable pad' smell that everyone hates. Most people worry that reusable pads will be like that x10, but they're not.

If you empty out your carry bag of used pads daily, smells are generally a non issue. You can also rinse your GladRags out with cool water before putting them in the laundry if you do notice anything.

    New to Reusable Pads?

Start with a kit. Most customers appreciate:

    • Starting with enough pads for a cycle
    • Getting the best value
    • Easier transition with different styles to choose at different parts of their cycle

    FAQ

HOW MANY PADS DO I NEED?

Most people start with 8-12 pads and have to wash 1-2 times during their cycle. If you're new to cloth pads, we recommend a Cloth Pad Starter Kit (or Starter Kit Plus), using that for a few cycles and figuring out what else you need to complete your collection.

    HOW LONG DO THEY LAST?

We guarantee our pads to last at least 5 years with proper care. Hundreds of customers have told us that their pads lasted at least 10 years before they replaced them (or menopause started)! Personally, I've been using the same pads for over 12.

Our cost savings estimates are all based on 5 years of use, but if you actually use them for 10 years, imagine how much more you'll save!

CAN THEY BE USED FOR LIGHT INCONTINENCE?

They sure can. While GladRags were originally designed for menstruation, it didn't take long to start hearing from customers that they were being used for light leaks. That's not something we talk about enough as a culture, but light incontinence impacts 1/3 of women! They're a wonderful alternative to disposables.

Most people find that the pantyliner plus is the perfect light incontinence solution. For a little more peace of mind (or the ability to swap out the insert for a new one), the Day Pad is the other go-to option.

    CLEANING & CARE

Caring for your cloth pads is simple. Follow our easy step-by-step instructions to ensure your GladRags will stay in great condition for years to come.

Easy care: Machine washable with standard detergent. Designed to retain absorbency and shape wash after wash.

Detailed Cloth Pad Cleaning & Care:

After use, separate the inserts from the holder. Pantyliners do not have inserts.
Soak in cold water, if desired, to help prevent staining. Use the presoak function on your washing machine, or soak in a covered rust-proof container. Change soaking water daily.
Machine wash cold using a natural detergent and tumble dry low or line dry. Do not use bleach or fabric softener. You may hand wash pads if desired.
Remove pads from dryer promptly and store flat to eliminate wrinkling; use cool iron if desired. Store your pads in a clean, dry place until next use.

Avoid using detergents with fabric softeners or whiteners/brighteners as these can inhibit the absorbency of your cloth pads. Try these plastic-free, non-toxic laundry detergent sheets from our friends at Zero Waste Cartel! Be aware that soaking your cloth pads in water with additives such as hydrogen peroxide can degrade the fabric and lead to holes. For this reason, we recommend utilizing stain removers as spot treatments and do not advise soaking cloth pads in water treated with peroxide-based stain removers.

We do not recommend the use of castile soap, facial soap, or other soaps not intended for textile laundering. Excess detergent may lead to build up, which can limit the absorbency of your cloth pads. While we have many customers that use homemade detergents with great success, cloth pads laundered with homemade detergent are not covered under our warranty. Full warranty information is available here.

A note about staining: Soaking your GladRags in cold water or pre-treating with an enzymatic cleanser immediately after using are two simple ways to prevent staining. However, light staining does not indicate that your laundered cloth pads are not clean or sanitary!

To clean your GladRags Carry Bag, simply wipe the bag with a damp cloth or machine wash cold, then air dry or tumble dry low.
